What is Boccia?

Boccia is a Paralympic sport that is able to be played by anyone, with or without a disability. This game is easy for a beginner to learn quickly, but builds in intensity and complexity as players hone their skills. Boccia is a co-ed sport that is similar to curling or lawn bowling. Games last four or six ends and the goal is to propel your ball closest to the jack ball. Boccia can be played head to head, in teams of three or in pairs.

Players unable to throw the ball are able to roll, or kick it. If a player cannot cannot roll or hit it, they are able to use a ramp or head pointer.

Boccia was introduced into the Paralympic program in 1984 and is now played in over fifty countries! It is governed by the Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sports Association and internationally, by the Boccia International Sports Federation.
